GIARDIA – GIARDIASIS

Giardia infection (giardiasis) is one of the most common causes of waterborne disease in the United States.

Giardiasis is a parasitic infection of the small intestine.

Main symptom is diarrhea often after traveling out of the country or after eating food that has not been properly washed or prepared with infected water.

It often affects patients especially in day care centers and nursing homes. The diarrhea lasts a few days to a few weeks, and the affected person loses appetite.

It can also be transmitted person to person or by a pet that got it by eating infected grass.

TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS

Trichomonas vaginalis, often referred only as Trish, is typically found in anaerobic environments which means that the parasite lives even without oxygen. It is a known parasite of many different animals including humans, birds, dogs, and cats. In humans, it can be found in the urogenital tract and in the oral cavity. It is estimated that 276 million new cases of urogenital infections occur each year.

It represents the most abundant non-viral sexually transmitted infection worldwide but can also come from contaminated water sources.

The infection is seen more commonly in women (especially elderly women) than in men, affecting the lower genital tract and urethra, respectively. The majority of infections are asymptomatic, but symptoms may and do occur, ranging from mild irritation to severe inflammatory syndromes. Trichomoniasis can also result in dyspareunia or discomfort during sexual intercourse. It affects African American women more than white or Hispanic women.

Recent research endeavors suggest that Trichomonas has the ability to produce molecules that target cells and confer cytotoxicity by damaging cell plasma membrane.

ROUNDWORMS

Roundworms are parasites that need to live in the body. They affect animals more than humans, but human roundworms infections often come from traveling to countries with poor sanitation and hygiene.

However, kids get them in the U.S. because they play on the ground and in the sand by contact with infected soil from animal feces deposits.

Once infected, the worms can cause itching of the anus, eye, lung, heart, and neurologic signs in people.

Over thirty years of clinical experience show that MSM's antiparasitic property is effective in eliminating parasites, MSM's anti-inflammation properties, and MSM's immune normalizing effect at the cell level of many diseases including cancer has been well documented.

It is suggested to take 2,000 to 4,000 mg of MSM a day to protect yourself from this parasite especially when you travel overseas or if elderly, when in day care centers and nursing homes.

If you are elderly, you may take up to 15,000 mg and more MSM a day to relieve all your other pain at the same time.
