FOLIC ACID - FOLATE DEFICIENCY

FOLIC ACID - FOLATE DEFICIENCY

Do you feel tired, no energy, short of breath, headaches, heart problems, not hungry, weight loss or feel ringing in your ears? You cannot taste the food, you have diarrhea, your muscles are weak, you feel depressed. It is often associated with folic acid deficiency.

Folic acid or folate deficiency is a condition when you do not have enough hemoglobin to make red blood cells. Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that helps carry oxygen to the tissues of the body.

Folate is a water-soluble vitamin. It dissolves in water and is not stored in your fat cells. This means that you need to keep taking folate, as your body cannot develop a reserve.

Folate deficiency can happen because you were born with it, a genetic mutation that prevents your body from absorbing or converting folate to its usable form. Difficulties absorbing enough folic acid can run in families. Infants with this problem need treatment right away to avoid long-term problems.

You are not eating enough foods like leafy green vegetables, beans, citrus fruits, or whole grains.

Drinking a lot of alcohol, over time, makes it harder for your intestines to absorb folate.

A medication you are taking keeps your body from absorbing folate (drug side effect). This is the case with many medicines, such as phenytoin (Dilantin), methotrexate, sulfasalazine, triamterene, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and barbiturates.

You have stomach problems, and your small intestine is not working the way it should, your body does not keep the folate it needs. People with Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, certain types of cancers or severe kidney problems that require dialysis are at risk for this type of deficiency.

A good number of medical reports have shown that under physical trauma and stress the body requires more methionine to provide its needed sulfur. In animal study, MSM supplementation enters into methionine, cysteine, cystine, taurine, and in countless hormones and structural proteins in the body.

With age, the body becomes less efficient and produces less of the required vitamins, including B3 known as niacin, B6 and folic acid.

Because older people need MSM to relieve their pain, the use of MSM will help not only your whole body but also control the production of folic acid. Please notify your physician before doing so. And if your physician does not know about MSM, tell her or him to read the books “The Miracle of MSM” and “MSM the Definitive Guide” for medical professionals.

It is suggested to take 2,000 to 6,000 mg of MSM daily in the form of crystals or capsules. It is suggested to start slowly and increase the daily dose up until you experience some relief.
